Under the leadership of founder and executive producer Kim Furlow, DLP creates solid, traditional theater. It specializes in meaty, character-driven work. The play follows them from to , a good long time, and director Annamaria Pileggi allows it to unfold slowly.
Although the play is short, about 75 minutes, Pileggi gives it a leisurely pace. She lets the relationship develop through a series of tiny episodes: a trip to the market in which Miss Daisy emerges as the world’s worst back-seat driver, a long drive to a family wedding, a Civil Rights benefit, a Thanksgiving visit near the end of Miss Daisy’s life. There’s nothing of great moment here, but Eaton and Lebby chart their characters’ small shifts with the deliberation of actors portraying Cleopatra and Hamlet.
